Interview and highlights
OK!: “What has made you so successful in your grappling career?”
Frankenstein: “I’ve had a lot of success in BJJ. I believe part of it is because I started so early. It’s addictive. I keep thinking about it in my dreams. Just the other night, I was trying to sleep and I couldn’t stop thinking about how I’d defend myself”
OK!: “What’s the main thing people ask you about your fighting style?”
Frankenstein: “A lot of people ask how I was able to train BJJ before it started.”
OK!: “How do you respond?”
Frankenstein: “I don’t let the haters get to me. You have to let it roll off of you.”
OK!: “Are there any techniques that still give you trouble?”
Frankenstein: “Not usually. It’s a lot easier to perform when you’re made from so many fighters. Actually — you know what? I do have some problems with double leg takedowns. Similarly, I just have problems with throws. There’s one I messed one up pretty hard early on and it’s just thrown me off my game.”
OK!: “How often do you train?”
Frankenstein: “I train 5 days a week. It’s still hard to get in mat time though. Sometimes I have to get unconventional with my training schedule, or location, or even training partners! It’s all about being flexible. It’s not something everyone agrees with, but it’s worked for me.”
OK!: “Do you have a favorite move?”
Frankenstein: “It all depends on my current position. I have a lot of favorites. I work a lot on my transition from standing to ground game. You can see where here where I was trying to pull off a RNC and just wasn’t able to get to the right place on time.”
OK!: Thanks a lot for taking the time to talk today, Frankenstein.
Frankenstein: My pleasure.
